What are Lifting Eye Bolts?
It is a bolt with a threaded shaft at one end and a loop at the other end that resembles the eye. They are used to firmly attach a securing eye to a structure, so that ropes or cables may then be tied to it. They are primarily classified into two type:
- Welded Eye Bolts are made by bending a bar with nominal thread size into a ring shape followed by welding the end to the shaft. These are industrial or commercial grade eyebolts that are ideal for light duty, non-lifting applications. These are low cost and are used for lighter loads and tensions. Some of the ideal applications include swings, benches, arbors, decks and railings.
- Lifting Eye Bolt is made by forging the head with a significant shoulder. This shoulder enables them to support significant off-axis loads. The ability to support off-axis loads is often important in lifting applications where lifting slings with multiple legs are used to attach to multiple lifting eyes. the most widely used kind of rigging hardware and specifically suited for lifting some heavy objects like machine, furniture, electric motor, metal mold, distribution panel, appliance etc. (source)
